Promotion & Protection of
Hazara Cultural Heritage
“Promotion and Protection of Hazara Cultural Heritage” project is focused on promotion, safeguarding and protection of the intangible cultural heritage of the Hazara community. This has been done through documentation, capacity building of artisans and craft practitioners, heritage education and promotional events, showcasing the indigenous and unique cultural aspects of their heritage.

The significance of the Hazara crafts is multifaceted. Faiz Foundation Trust (FFT) under the British Council, Culture Protection Fund (CPF) is focusing to address the dire needs of the artisans/craft-persons of the Hazara community. It is also enabling them on digital literacy and to create market linkages to provide economic empowerment opportunities to the local Hazara community. An increase in demand creates employment opportunities, which in turn, fosters skill-development, encourages entrepreneurship, and strengthens the overall social fabric.

Kilim Making
Kilim, the traditional craft of rug-weaving, has been the lifeline of the Hazara community for centuries, sustaining them through periods of starvation, persecution, and harsh weather-conditions. Though still in practice, it has become quite restricted. Prioritizing the creation of Kilim is crucial as it holds significant international market.

Sawatkari
The traditional craft of handmade silver-jewelry, Sawatkari, is on the brink of endangerment, confined to limited circles of practice. The decline is attributed to the reluctance in passing down the skills to new generations, coupled with limited market access and consumer recognition.

Hand Embroidery
Hand embroidery predominantly centers around Hazara women. While the craft isn't declining,
changing fashion preferences have led people to veer away from traditional embroidery.
